Also known as Red cedar, from the family Cupressacea. Originally used by Native North Americans, cedar is an important ornamental and wood in eastern North America, whose fragrant wood is made into cabinets, fence posts and pencils.
Harvest Juniperus virginiana is from a dense slow-growing evergreen conifer that may never become more than a shrub on poor soil, but is usually from 5–20 m tall, with a short trunk 30–100 cm (rarely 27 m tall and 170 cm in diameter). The oldest tree reported, from West Virginia, was 940 years old. The bark is reddish brown, fibrous and peels off in narrow strips. The leaves are of two types.
