Product description - Virginia cedar is a slow-growing coniferous, evergreen tree reaching a height of 33 meters. It has a reddish heartwood and bears brown cones. Also known as Red Cedar, from the family Cupressaceae. Originally used by Native North Americans, cedar is an important ornamental and timber tree in Eastern North America, whose fragrant wood is made into cabinets, fence posts, and pencils.

Harvesting of Juniperus virginiana is from a dense, slow-growing, evergreen coniferous tree that may never be more than a shrub on poor soil, but is typically 5–20 m tall, with a short trunk 30–100 cm (rarely 27 m in height and 170 cm in diameter). The oldest tree reported, from West Virginia, was 940 years old. The bark is reddish-brown, fibrous and peels off in narrow strips. The leaves are of two types.
